FLORENCE TRAVEL DIARY – DAY 4

Ciao everybody,
this morning we visited Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower. The Renaissance dome is located in Piazza del Duomo. The cathedral opens at 10am and I recommend you to come around 20min early because there was a long queue. Afterwards we walked to the nearby market. I visited this market on my first day. There is the Mercato Centrale and Mercato di San Lorenzo. The first one offers a huge variety of food on two floors inside. The second one is outside and there are several stands with bags and accessories. This market is perfect for shopping and keep in mind that it is possible to negotiate prices. Then we had delicious ice cream at Venchi.

Next we took a bus tour through the city. There are a lot of small streets so the public transport has special small busses for these routes. A ticket costs between 1,20-2€ and lasts for 90min. For dinner we visited Mangia Pizza again. They have so delicious pizza for 7-10€. One of my favourite things are sunsets so I decided to walk to Piazzale Michelangelo again.

I have been there yesterday and the view over the city is stunning. It is the perfect place to see a sunset.

Tonight it was one of the most beautiful sunsets I have ever seen.

Afterwards I walked through the city by night.

All the lights were on and there were many great musicians on the street.

This was such a fabulous last evening in Florence. Tomorrow we are already leaving for Munich.

FLORENCE TRAVEL DIARY – DAY 3

Ciao everybody,
this morning I woke up early and had a beautiful walk before breakfast.

I walked to Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza del Duomo and Piazza della Signoria.

7am is a good time to take beautiful photos with no people in the shot.

After breakfast we visited Pitti Palace. This is a Renaissance palace close to Ponte Vecchio. The famous bridge over the river Arno has many shops built along it. Pitti Palace was built for the Pitti Family in 1457. In 1549 the Medicis bought the palace and it became the primary residence of the ducal family.

Today the palace houses some museums. There you have the opportunity to choose between two tickets. We chose the second one. This ticket includes Bobolin Garden, Bardini Garden, Costume Gallery, Silverworks Museum and Porcelain Museum. Some museums are located inside the Pitti Palace so you are able to see many traditional rooms. All the rooms are so pretty and totally worth to visit. My favourite part was Costume Gallery. There you see the stunning rooms and a great collection of historical clothes and accessories. Afterwards we walked through the Boboli Gardens, the design of the garden is great.

In the afternoon I walked around the hills on the south side of the river.

There I discovered Piazzale Michelangelo. This is a square with an amazing view over the city.

Suddenly the weather changed, it was so windy and started to rain. So we had coffee at Piazza della Repubblica. This square is so close to our hotel so we decided to have dinner there as well.

FLORENCE TRAVEL DIARY – DAY 2

Ciao everybody,
today was another beautiful day in Florence. We had to get up early because we booked tickets for the Uffizi Gallery. This is a huge museum and one of the most famous in the world. We booked our tickets online. There you can book a time slot and we chose the first one at 8.15am. You have to come 15min early to pick up the tickets. The museum is impressive and there are so many beautiful pieces of art.

The octagonal room called Tribuna is stunning.

Every single detail inside the room is gorgeous.

Another beautiful room is Sala della Niobe this place was my favourite one in the museum.

Everything is so pretty and together it is even more spectacular. On the second floor of the museum is a terrace with a great view of the dome and Palazzo Vecchio.

Moreover there are many windows in the museum with a fabulous view over the city. Afterwards we spent the rest of the day walking around the city. My favourite part of travelling is to discover a city by walking. I walked to Basilica of Saint Mary of the Flower (dome), Basilica of Santa Maria Novella

and Pitti Palace.

The weather was amazing so I didn’t visit the inside. Then I walked along the river.

Next I went to Via dei Neri. This is a nice street with many shops and places to eat. At the Piazza della Signoria I walked through the Palazzo Vecchio.

For dinner we visited Mangia Pizza Firenze. This Pizza was the best one I have ever tried.

FLORENCE TRAVEL DIARY – DAY 1

Happy Easter everybody!
Today I flew from Munich to Florence with my grandmother. We are staying in Florence until Thursday. Luckily we found an amazing last minute offer with flights and hotel. The flight and shuttle service was fine and we arrived in the city centre at 2pm. The bus ride from the airport to the central station took around 20min and one ticket costs 6€. The location of the hotel is amazing. All the landmarks are extremely close. Both of us have never been in Florence before so we walked around. At first we went to the duomo.

This cathedral is so beautiful and impressive. There we found Edoardo il Gelato Biologico. This is a great place to buy delicious ice cream. Moreover it is a perfect spot to take a photo with the dome in the background.

Next we walked to the famous market Mercato Centrale. Inside the building there are many places to have food and outside there is a another big market. There are several stands where you can buy bags, scarfs, jackets etc. I found such a pretty small bag and I got it for 15€ instead of 35€. Keep in mind that it is possible to talk about the price. Afterwards we visited Ponte Vecchio. Unfortunately it was so crowded that we decided to visit the bridge on another day. So we walked along the river to the Palazzo Vecchio.

This square is so pretty and there are many restaurants with normal prices. There we had delicious pizza with a great view. Florence is a beautiful city and I am looking forward to the next days.
